Mary’s Seven Sorrows

“Piercing. Visceral. Striking.”

- The Catholic Herald

Mary’s Seven Sorrows are a series of seven 16-inch x 24-inch oil paintings showcased in Ferrell Hall at Saint Mary of Sorrows Catholic Church. These paintings were commissioned by patrons of the Church, Mary and Frederick Parker, as a gift to the Church and its worshippers. Each painting took hours of research, sketching, and painting. The paintings were completed while Katie was still a student at Virginia Commonwealth University. The first painting started in early 2020 and the last was completed in October 2023. These paintings are used to pray in front of, for religious education, and viewing. Frederick Parker, one of the commissioners, created prayer cards with the paintings printed for distribution.
